Dempsey, 27, of Williston had entered the motel lobby armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. Before fleeing, Dempsey dropped an item and his weapon discharged, striking him in the leg, Abdullah said.<\/p>\n<p>Dempsey then got into a red Ford Focus with three other suspects and fled the scene, Abdullah said. He was later taken to an area hospital for treatment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr Dempsey and his felonious friends waved down police officers who were responding to the report about their robbery and asked for help to treat the gunshot. All four are locked up tonight and South Carolina is marginally safer.
