{"id":57219,"date":"2014-12-19T14:10:46","date_gmt":"2014-12-19T19:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=57219"},"modified":"2014-12-19T14:10:46","modified_gmt":"2014-12-19T19:10:46","slug":"a-thousand-paratroopers-headed-for-iraq-next-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=57219","title":{"rendered":"A thousand paratroopers headed for Iraq next month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OK, my timing was off a hair, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=55768\">my prediction<\/a> that the 82nd Airborne Division would send a brigade to Iraq is closer to realization, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/news\/us\/1-000-soldiers-from-the-82nd-airborne-headed-to-iraq-1.320194\">Stars &#038; Stripes<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> The soldiers from the 82nd\u2019s 3rd Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Bragg, N.C., will begin to deploy in late January to train, advise and assist the ISF, Pentagon press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Their mission is part of the coalition effort to build up the Iraqi army and Kurdish peshmerga so that they can recapture territory from Islamic State militants.<\/p>\n<p>The paratroopers are preparing for a nine-month deployment, according to a spokeswoman for the 82nd Airborne.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Back on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=56779\">December 1st <\/a>we wrote about 250 paratroopers from the 1-505th PIR who were going to Iraq this month, so this must be the rest of that battalion and some support folks.
