Vermont is an . . . interesting state. \u00a0They have some true \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Communist idiots<\/del> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0lost-in-the-past Socialists<\/del> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Progressives in high places there.<\/p>\n

Who? \u00a0Well, like their \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0good Communist<\/del> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0self-avowed Socialist Senator, Bernie Sanders. \u00a0And their highly Progressive Governor,\u00a0Peter Shumlin.<\/p>\n

Shumlin has been advocating\u00a0a “single payer” medical care system in Vermont for some time. \u00a0(For those who aren’t fluent in\u00a0Progressive NewSpeak, that essentially means “government-run Socialized medicine paid for by your taxes”.) \u00a0It was planned to go into effect in 2017.<\/p>\n

However, Shumlin has now thrown in the towel on single payer<\/a>. \u00a0 It’s not going to happen.<\/p>\n

Hey, you don’t suppose the fact that paying for it would have required an 11.5%<\/strong> payroll tax<\/em> – plus<\/span> an additional income tax of up to 9.5%<\/strong><\/em> – had anything to do with that, do you? \u00a0Plus the fact that a report prepared for the governor on Vermont’s proposed single payer system indicated\u00a0that implementing single payer medical care\u00a0would not save money<\/span>?<\/p>\n

Well, yes – those facts did have something to do with it. \u00a0Even that good \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Socialist tool<\/del>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Progressive fella Shumlin finally figured out that simply wasn’t affordable and just wasn’t going to work. \u00a0Reality smacked him in the head and made him listen – after, unfortunately, much time and many Vermont taxpayer dollars had been wasted.<\/p>\n

Took him long enough. \u00a0Anyone with common sense could have told him that on\u00a0day one.<\/p>\n

Here’s the problem: \u00a0on the surface, the idea of getting free\u00a0sh!t sounds great. \u00a0The problem is that when it comes to real<\/span> goods and services, “free” . . . doesn’t really exist. \u00a0One way or another, someone always\u00a0pays\u00a0for it.<\/em> \u00a0That’s called “basic economics”. \u00a0That fact is succinctly summarized in the following nine words: \u00a0“There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”.<\/p>\n

And if it’s government-provided “free” sh!t, guess who’s paying for it? \u00a0Yep – taxpayers. \u00a0You and me.<\/p>\n

Even dyed-in-the-wool Progressives like Shumlin sometimes are forced to acknowledge the above\u00a0truths. \u00a0Problem is, sometimes it takes them getting whacked in the head by reality before they acknowledge\u00a0the truth.<\/p>\n
