There\u2019s been some recent news \u2013 again \u2013 about RADM Timothy M. Giardina. For those who\u2019ve forgotten , RADM Giardina was the former Deputy Commander of STRATCOM who was relieved of duties (and who reverted to RADM rank) after being accused of using altered poker chips at a local casino<\/a>. \u201cAltered\u201d, as in changed to make them to appear to have a much higher value than they actually did ($500 each vice $1 each).<\/p>\n

RADM Giardina was offered NJP (!) for this act, and accepted same. He also apparently lied to investigators during the initial investigation into his conduct. He initially told investigators that he bought the chips in question from a guy in the caniso\u2019s rest room. He later changed his story to say e merely \u201cfound these items\u201d in the casino\u2019s rest room and decided to use them. Currently, \u201cthat\u2019s his story and he\u2019s sticking to it\u201d.<\/p>\n

Well, information has now come out that his DNA was found underneath a sticker attached to one of the chips to alter its value. In truth, that\u2019s not definitive; the investigator who discovered it indicates migration of DNA is possible in such cases. Draw your own conclusion as to what you believe that evidence indicates.<\/p>\n

But either way \u2013 sheesh, Admiral.\u00a0 As I said before:\u00a0 you flushed your career\u00a0 for freaking $1500<\/span>?\u00a0 Really?
\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Of course, RADM Giardina now says he \u201cdeeply regrets\u201d lying to Iowa state investigators and giving them that initial cock-and-bull story \u2013 which he says was an \u201cerror in judgment\u201d.\u00a0 But he also says, \u201cThis lapse in judgment does not make me a thief and a criminal.”<\/p>\n

He also claims he \u201cdoesn\u2019t have a gambling problem\u201d.\u00a0 Um, yeah.\u00a0 Whatever you say, Admiral.\u00a0\u00a0 But the investigative report on your conduct in this incident obtained by AP appears to indicate otherwise<\/a>.\u00a0 It usually takes quite a bit to get banned from multiple casinos.\u00a0 And smoking butts out of an ashtray is generally the act someone who desperately wants a smoke, but can’t afford a pack of his own.<\/p>\n
