In TN&#8221; sends us a link to an article in the <a href=\"http:\/\/tbo.com\/list\/military-news\/internet-scammer-adopts-face-of-army-officer-20141119\/\">Tampa Tribune<\/a> about an engineer officer whose picture was used in a scam to separate a widow from her cash;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In August, [Norma Jean] Culpeper\u2019s husband died. Seeking companionship, she went on an internet dating site geared for widows and widowers.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s where she met the man claiming to be Capt. Nathan Anthes. The two struck up a friendship that turned romantic, before becoming something else entirely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said his wife Kelly died, leaving him to take care of his daughter, but that he had no way of accessing his money because he was in Afghanistan,\u201d said Culpeper.<\/p>\n<p>Seeking a loan, the man emailed the verification note [from the government of Benin] about the gold dust as proof of collateral, said Culpeper.<\/p>\n<p>Culpeper said that she eventually sent him money, about $1,200. And the two even talked about marriage. Until her daughter, Samantha Bryant, found out.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yeah, well, it&#8217;s tough to scam an honest man or woman. Ladies, don&#8217;t loan money to people you&#8217;ve never met. Most folks in the military don&#8217;t need a loan, and many more don&#8217;t have $2.8 million in gold dust that they&#8217;re willing to share with you even though they&#8217;ve never met you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;MCPO Ret.
