The first time Montmayor met Goethals, he said, Goethals bragged about being a prisoner of war for three years after being shot down as a Cobra helicopter pilot in Vietnam.<\/p>\n
\u201cNobody brags about being a POW. Nobody,\u201d said Montmayor, 34, who served 13 years in the U.S. Army including stints in Iraq and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Montmayor said Goethals claims that when his helicopter crashed, his co-pilot\u2019s head was severed and fell into his lap \u2013 a situation no POW would voluntarily discuss.<\/p>\n
\u201cNobody does that,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s only two awards nobody wants \u2013 a POW ribbon and a Purple Heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople that are in special operations for one, people that are POWs, it\u2019s heavily offensive to claim that you were one of them if you\u2019re really not. It\u2019s trampling on the memory of veterans that did serve back then and POWs that did.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
As a reminder, Frank, here, served less than 80 days in the Navy (the Marines have never heard of him) back in the mid-60s and he’s spent the last 40 years building this lie. He says that he’s been in every conflict since Vietnam, alternately as a pilot or as Special Forces depending on the day you ask him. <\/p>\n
