Gaylord Stevens, also known as Steven Hawke, was arrested in San Antonio on Wednesday on the Smith County charges and was expected to be booked into the Smith County Jail late Thursday on the charges and with bonds totaling $300,000.<\/p>\n
Stevens, 65, reported to media outlets last December that Lindale Police illegally seized his horse as he traveled across the country attempting to raise awareness for American history. <\/p>\n
Stevens visited the Tyler Morning Telegraph, telling \u201chis side of the story\u201d as that of a Vietnam veteran being harassed by police over horses that were in \u201cgood health.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, Lindale Police Lt. David Craft said the man\u2019s horses were diseased to the point where two of the animals had to be put down. <\/p>\n
Stevens was released on bond at the time, but Craft said there always was a much bigger issue, and that was the child p****graphy on the man\u2019s computer and in his possession.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A book titled \u201cStolen Valor\u201d indicates Stevens actually served in the U.S. Coast Guard stateside from 1969 to 1972. He never went to Vietnam and never was a Navy Seal. <\/p>\n
Craft said Stevens also was considered a con man who traveled the country collecting money from unsuspecting individuals and businesses for a Vietnam War museum.<\/p>\n
Stevens and another man, who claimed to be an Army Green Beret in Vietnam, did open a museum for a few years in the 1980s in San Antonio, but when it was learned they had lied about their service, the museum closed. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
