The Christian Science Monitor reports that the three women Marines (WM) were asked to leave the course a few weeks after the completed the grueling test to qualify for their attendance at the Infantry Officer Course. <\/p>\n
They were physically disqualified from the training last week for falling behind in hikes while carrying loads of upwards of 100 pounds, says Maj. George Flynn, director of the Infantry Officers Course (IOC) at Quantico, Va.<\/p>\n

When they begin the 13-week IOC, officers are told that if they \u201cfall out\u201d of more than one \u201ctactical movement\u201d during their time in training, they will be asked to leave the school. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat has always been IOC policy,\u201d Major Flynn says.\u201cThe key part is not just to conduct a movement. You need to lead that moment, and you can\u2019t do that if you\u2019re falling out.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Marines haven\u2019t always been clear about the parameters for the course, says Greg Jacob, policy director for the Service Women\u2019s Action Network. <\/p>\n
At the enlisted training school, Mr. Jacobs, who served as a Marine, recalls that students were told they could walk no faster than three miles an hour, and every hour they had to take a 10-minute break. <\/p>\n
In the IOC, \u201cit\u2019s up to the person in front to set the speed of the hike,\u201d he says. \u201cThere doesn\u2019t seem to be a standard around these movements.\u201d<\/p>\n
As a result, he adds, \u201cit seems like the goal posts just keep moving.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
