We\u2019re all very aware of the Ebola outbreak in west Africa. But you really have to wonder about the intellect \u2013 or sanity \u2013 of some of those involved.<\/p>\n

Recently, the government of Australia pledged a substantial contribution – $2.5M each to both the WHO and the NGO group Medicines Sans Frontiers, or MSF \u2013 to be used to defray costs associated with containing the outbreak. It also pledged a contribution of $2M to the UK government to help with their efforts in Sierra Leone. This brings Australia\u2019s contribution to the effort to contain the Ebola outbreak to $8M.<\/p>\n

MSF turned the money down. <\/a> Why? On the grounds that Australia was \u201cshirking it\u2019s responsibility\u201d to help contain the epidemic (or words to that effect) by not sending people.<\/p>\n

What a load of horsesh!t<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Now, I think MSF is a fine charity. They\u2019re doing great things, worldwide, in helping to reduce suffering.\u00a0 But here, they\u2019re just freaking out to lunch.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re a charity. Charities help people when they can’t help themselves. They don\u2019t<\/span> make policy.<\/p>\n

What follows is a message for the head of MSF:<\/p>\n

\u201cListen up, f**kwit. No – don’t try to say a damn thing.\u00a0 Just sit down, STFU, and listen up. <\/em><\/p>\n

You obviously don\u2019t \u2018get it\u2019. <\/em><\/p>\n

The government of Australia is helping the best way they feel that they can. They have advised their own citizens<\/span> that they have no capability to evacuate them from western Africa should things go bad.\u00a0 They\u2019ve determined that they don\u2019t have the capability to provide help in kind \u2013 or that doing so is not in their national interest.<\/em><\/p>\n

Your organization has no claim on Australia\u2019s resources.\u00a0 And the government of Australia doesn\u2019t have any \u2018responsibility\u2019 to anyone but Australians.\u00a0 They obviously don\u2019t think it\u2019s in their best interests to send large numbers of people to west Africa right now.\u00a0 That’s their call – not yours.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

Get a grip, and remember who – and what – you are.\u00a0 Quit acting like a combination prima donna <\/em>and spoiled brat who got a different toy from the exact one they wanted. <\/em><\/p>\n

Take the Australian money, tell them thanks, and buy some sh!t your organization needs. Or use it to hire some folks to do things you can\u2019t do now. But damn – quit being stupid<\/span>.\u00a0 And concentrate on doing your freaking job instead of trying to tell others how to do theirs.<\/em><\/p>\n

That is all.\u00a0 Now, get yer ass out of here and get back to doing something useful.\u00a0 You’re actually pretty good at that when you put your mind to it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
