You might remember Dennis Myers<\/a>, the fellow who conned phony Vietnam veteran Tom Harkin’s office into publicly awarding him the Silver Star using this totally bogus citation;<\/p>\n

Well, instead of coming clean, the Des Moines Register<\/a> reports that Myers is doubling down;<\/p>\n

Myers flatly denies that he duped Harkin’s office into presenting him with the honor. He told The Des Moines Register he was part of a covert mission, which is why some of his records are not listed in public military records.<\/p>\n

Myers, 64, initially told the Register the certificate he submitted to Harkin’s office came from Navy personnel records, but then he said it came from the American War Library, a private business in California. Business officials refused to identify themselves when contacted by the Register and would not answer questions about how they verify military service awards before they issue certificates.<\/p>\n

Myers’ type of certification can be purchased and emailed for as little as $9.50, according to the website.<\/p>\n

“Everybody can call me a liar and all that stuff but, hey, I know. I was there,” Myers said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Doug Sterner sent us a link to where Myer<\/a> purchased his bogus shit.<\/p>\n

Doug Sterner, curator of the Military Times Hall of Valor, contacted Harkin’s staff soon after that ceremony. Sterner oversees a searchable database of military honors from the U.S. armed services and requests verification before adding information to the site.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I tried to contact Harkin’s office, too, but I got nuthin’. I guess Harkin feels a camaraderie with other phony Vietnam veterans that the rest of us will never understand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
