{"id":54715,"date":"2014-08-23T08:59:25","date_gmt":"2014-08-23T12:59:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=54715"},"modified":"2014-08-23T09:29:25","modified_gmt":"2014-08-23T13:29:25","slug":"usaf-overflights-of-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=54715","title":{"rendered":"USAF Overflights of Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I ran across a <a href=\"http:\/\/data-freeway.com\/plesetsk\/overflights.htm\"> fascinating article this morning<\/a>.\u00a0 I thought I&#8217;d share it.<\/p>\n<p>The article deals with USAF involvement in overflights of the Soviet Union between 1950 and 1956.\u00a0 And no, not just quick in-and-out &#8220;border dashes&#8221;.\u00a0 Some of the missions were indeed deep penetration overflights.<\/p>\n<p>The article is not sourced, and the author appears to desire anonymity.\u00a0 I thus can&#8217;t give a good assessment of how credible the article is based on sources or author&#8217;s reputation.<\/p>\n<p>However, the article does generally square with other accounts generally accorded to be of high-reliability. It also provides details that lead me to believe the author had access to some . . . very good documentation.\u00a0 My assessment is that very likely quite accurate.<\/p>\n<p>The CIA and the U2 generally get the bulk of the credit for overflying the Soviet Union. But the CIA weren&#8217;t the only &#8220;players&#8221; in that deadly Cold War game &#8211; which was at times neither &#8220;cold&#8221; nor played for low stakes.<\/p>\n<p>Fascinating reading.\u00a0 Highly recommended.<\/p>\n<p><strong>. . .<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>(Note:\u00a0 it&#8217;s been my experience that sites such as the one to which this article is posted are often ephemeral.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve captured the article to PDF in the case it disappears.)\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I ran across a fascinating article this morning.\u00a0 I thought I&#8217;d share it.
