From Pat comes the news that Remington Arms in Ilion, New York has laid off over a 100 employees as they move a chunk of their production to Alabama according to the Utica Observer-Dispatch<\/a> as a direct result of New York’s gun control legislation known as the SAFE Act.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday’s reduction in force is a result of this strategic business decision and a softening market,\u201d Teddy Novin, Remington Outdoor Company\u2019s director of public affairs, wrote in an email, echoing his May sentiments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe latest announcement from Remington Arms, although not unexpected, is still deeply disappointing for our community,\u201d state Assemblyman Marc Butler, R-Newport, said in a statement. \u201cThis is more than 100 of our friends, neighbors and relatives whose families now face an uncertain future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colleen Pardi, co-owner of The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy on Central Avenue in Ilion said the layoffs will place more stress on an already depressed economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the new gun regulations \u2014 we all thought they would have an impact on Remington even if (Gov. Andrew Cuomo) said they wouldn\u2019t,\u201d Pardi said. \u201cI wonder how the governor feels now.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, well, the legacy governor doesn’t give a tiny rat’s ass. He proved that when Remington invited him to tour the factory and to reassure employees after Cuomo rammed through his ill-considered gun control legislation. Of course, Cuomo couldn’t make the drive.<\/p>\n

Jobs are few and far between across Upstate New York, but that’s not where Cuomo gets his votes, so he doesn’t care.
