This time it’s from Illinois;

A customer was pistol-whipped during the robbery, and she and two employees got out as a police officer was arriving, after he was flagged down by several witnesses.

The officer saw the robber running out the back, carrying a large duffel bag and a gun. When the suspect spotted the officer, he dropped the bag and ran away. The officer began chasing the suspect, but soon heard two gunshots, and he took cover, not knowing who was shooting.

It turned out the man with the concealed carry permit had entered the store and fired at the suspect from the back door as the officer arrived.

Crestwood police said the man with the concealed carry permit told investigators he was concerned for the officer’s safety when he saw him go behind the building after the robber went out the back door. No one was injured as a result of the gunfire.

The next story comes from Tennessee where a thief and his intended victim exchanged gunfire;

It happened around 8:20 a.m. at Jackson and Liberty, not far from the University of Louisville’s dental school and in front of an apartment complex. That’s where police say a man armed with a gun tried to rob another man, but that man had a gun, too.

Investigators say the two shot each other. Both men were taken to University Hospital, but police tell us their injuries are not life-threatening. U of L confirms one of the victims is an employee at the dental school and is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

WDRB 41 Louisville News

The next story is from Florida where employees were spending the night in a Tobacco store because of previous break ins;

“All I heard was glass breaking, and I just jumped up. It’s kind of a blur,” said Shane Hiser, who was sound asleep in the Smoke Shop when someone smashed his way in through the glass front door.

Police identified the suspect as Dillon Trujillo, 22, and said he got into a confrontation with Hiser before Hiser shot Trujillo.

Hiser said he thought Trujillo was armed and remembers having one thought go through his mind.

“That it was him or me, and I was afraid for my life,” Hiser said.

Trujillo was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police said he stole something from the business before the confrontation, and will face burglary charges.

“It appears at this point that the shooting is justified but obviously there’s still a lot that needs to be looked at and that’s something we’ll discuss with the State Attorney’s office,” said Andrea Davis, a TPD spokesperson.

Chief Tango sends us our feel good story for this morning.
