John Kerry tried to cram a really bad deal for Israel down their collective throat the other day, but all he really did was unite the various political factions who now think that they are not only fighting a terrorist neighbor, but also their former ally against terrorism. The Times of Israel calls it “The Betrayal<\/a>“;<\/p>\n

It seemed inconceivable that the secretary\u2019s initiative would specify the need to address Hamas\u2019s demands for a lifting of the siege of Gaza, as though Hamas were a legitimate injured party acting in the interests of the people of Gaza \u2014 rather than the terror group that violently seized control of the Strip in 2007, diverted Gaza\u2019s resources to its war effort against Israel, and could be relied upon to exploit any lifting of the \u201csiege\u201d in order to import yet more devastating weaponry with which to kill Israelis.<\/p>\n

Israel and the US are meant to be allies; the US is meant to be committed to the protection of Israel in this most ruthless of neighborhoods; together, the US and Israel are meant to be trying to marginalize the murderous Islamic extremism that threatens the free world. Yet here was the top US diplomat appearing to accommodate a vicious terrorist organization bent on Israel\u2019s destruction, with a formula that would leave Hamas better equipped to achieve that goal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I guess being the actual secretary of state is more difficult than negotiating as a private citizen as Kerry did in Paris with the North Vietnamese in 1970. But, of course, Kerry’s proposed treaty included all of the Code Pink issues. Meanwhile, Hamas’ leader in gaza says that it’s not possible for Hamas to exist alongside Israel, according to AFP<\/a>;<\/p>\n

“We are not fanatics, we are not fundamentalists. We are not actually fighting the Jews because they are Jews per se. We do not fight any other races. We fight the occupiers,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I’m ready to coexist with the Jews, with the Christians and the Arabs and non-Arabs,” he said. “However, I do not coexist with the occupiers.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The UN calls for a ceasefire<\/a> in Gaza, apparently unaware that Hamas hasn’t ceased fire since this began. The president also called for an “immediate ceasefire” even though each attempt at a ceasefire has failed because of one side. In fact, this whole episode began while the two sides were under a 2012 ceasefire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
