Last Friday, the Federal government released some data<\/a> regarding the recent upturn in illegal immigration. Were I a cynic, I might say that the timing was chosen to obscure the story \u2013 since the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was the big item that day. And it was released on a Friday afternoon , which is traditionally when data that is unflattering to the US Administration at the time has been released (less chance of coverage over the weekend).<\/p>\n

The data that was released is . . . interesting.<\/p>\n

The Federal government and the media has routinely characterized this latest round of illegal immigration as being \u201cchildren\u201d. And in truth, the number of minors unlawfully immigrating without an accompanying adult has indeed roughly doubled \u2013 to 57,525 over the last nine months.<\/p>\n

However, buried in the data are two facts that prove the characterization above wrong. First: over the same period , the number of persons unlawfully immigrating in family units (child plus one or both parents) has quintupled<\/em> \u2013 e.g., increased fivefold<\/em><\/span>. That total was 55,420.<\/p>\n

In other words:\u00a0 a smaller<\/span> percentage of those immigrating unlawfully today are unaccompanied minors than was the case nine months ago.<\/p>\n

The second nugget: the majority of those so-called \u201cchildren\u201d . . . really aren\u2019t children in anything but the legal sense. Rather, most are youngsters aged 14-17.\u00a0 If they were here legally, some of them would be old enough to serve in the military if otherwise qualified.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re often not coming here to “reunite with their family”, either. When asked, many make no bones about the fact that they’re coming to the US illegally to look for work.<\/p>\n

And don’t even try the bogus claim that they’re “victims of human trafficking”. They’re coming after either they or relatives pay a coyote to bring them to the US illegally.<\/p>\n

We must act “in the best interests of the children.”\u00a0 Yeah, right.\u00a0 So much for the Administration leveling with the US public about what’s going on here.<\/p>\n

Yeah,\u00a0 they\u2019re p!ssing on our leg and telling us it\u2019s raining yet again.\u00a0 But given what we\u2019ve seen from the \u201cthe most transparent Administration in history\u201d so far \u2013did you really expect anything else?<\/p>\n
