{"id":54035,"date":"2014-07-18T16:35:27","date_gmt":"2014-07-18T20:35:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=54035"},"modified":"2014-07-18T16:36:47","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T20:36:47","slug":"new-pacaf-commander-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=54035","title":{"rendered":"New PACAF Commander Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The USAF has announced its next Commander for PACAF:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/news\/pentagon-announces-new-commanders-for-pacaf-acc-1.293557\">Lt. Gen. Lori Robinson<\/a>.\u00a0 She&#8217;s currently the Vice-Commander for Air Combat Command.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. Gen. Robinson won&#8217;t be the first woman to command one of the Air Component Commands.\u00a0 And she won&#8217;t be the USAF&#8217;s first female 4-star, either.<\/p>\n<p>But I do have to admit one thing about the announcement gives me pause.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s not the general&#8217;s gender.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also not her leadership ability.\u00a0 It&#8217;s exceptionally rare for someone to get to the O-9 level without being a good leader.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rallypoint.com\/answers\/how-well-will-a-non-pilot-command-pacaf\">It&#8217;s the fact that she&#8217;s not a pilot<\/a>.\u00a0 She&#8217;s an air battle manager.<\/p>\n<p>Call me old fashioned, but I think someone who commands an organization with a mission of flying in combat simply needs to be someone who&#8217;s been a pilot themselves.\u00a0 (The previous female Air Combat Component commander &#8211; at AFRICOM &#8211; reputedly was a longtime transport aircraft pilot.)<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;m neither an aviator nor a zoomie.\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;m wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Comments?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The USAF has announced its next Commander for PACAF:\u00a0 Lt.
