Marine_7002 sends us a link to the Detroit News<\/a> which reports that Detroit Police Chief James Craig credits armed citizens in that city for the drop in crime there – an unusual position for an inner-city police official lately;<\/p>\n

\u201cCriminals are getting the message that good Detroiters are armed and will use that weapon,\u201d said Craig, who has repeatedly said he believes armed citizens deter crime. \u201cI don\u2019t want to take away from the good work our investigators are doing, but I think part of the drop in crime, and robberies in particular, is because criminals are thinking twice that citizens could be armed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t say what specific percentage is caused by this, but there\u2019s no question in my mind it has had an effect,\u201d Craig said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course, the gun grabbers can’t grasp the concept;<\/p>\n

\u201cOur position is, more guns equals more crime,\u201d [Josh Horwitz, director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence in Washington D.C.] said \u201cThese are complicated issues, but the empirical evidence shows the states with the lowest gun ownership and the tightest restrictions have the fewest instances of gun violence.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Despite the evidence to the contrary;<\/p>\n

Detroit resident Al Woods, a self-described former criminal who is now an anti-violence advocate and author, agreed criminals are thinking twice about attacking citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I was out there now robbing people these days, knowing there are a lot more people with guns, I know I\u2019d have to rethink my game plan,\u201d said Woods, 60.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
