Chief Tango sends us a link to the Stars & Stripes<\/a> which reports that young Kenpetch Manasmontri learned a tough lesson the other day when he tried to garner favor with a judge by wearing a military uniform in the courtroom. He was pulled over by a Forest Service officer at the Cherokee National Forest for driving without a seatbelt and he was found to be driving without a license and no proof of insurance. <\/p>\n

After repeatedly delaying his court appearance, Manasmontri finally appeared in Greeneville U.S. District Court in September 2013.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn that date, he appeared dressed in camouflage military battle dress uniform … (with a) cloth tab with his last named sewed on it (attached with Velcro) on his uniform,\u201d Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian Lampe wrote in the plea agreement. \u201cHe had unit insignia on his blouse and was wearing matching pants, belt and boots.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lampe \u201cthanked him for his service\u201d and asked Manasmontri if he would \u201close rank if he went to jail for the driving while suspended or revoked charge,\u201d the document stated. \u201cManasmontri said he thought he would.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lampe was sympathetic, talking to the uniform-clad Manasmontri about the difficulties of integrating back into civilian society.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Manasmontri) then went on to say that he had seen terrible things during his deployment,\u201d Lampe wrote.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, PTSD made him drive without a license. But someone else in the court room noticed that Manasmontri had the flag patch on his uniform upside down and pointed it out to him. He said that it must have happened in the dryer. (Ha!)<\/p>\n

Anyway, it was discovered through more inquiries that he had never been in the military and that he had worn the uniform to curry favor with the court. Now he’ll be currying favor with his cell mate for the next thirty days in a federal prison. I hope it makes him smile.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
