Mary sends us a link to an article in Canada’s National Post<\/a> about Gary Peters who was deported from Canada last year when Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board determined that his work as a body guard for Saadi Gaddafi, the son of Muammar Gaddafi, made him complicit in war crimes.<\/p>\n

Our friends at Australian and New Zealand Military Imposters (ANZMI)<\/a> also found that many of the awards that Peters wore were just pinned on because Peters thought that he deserved to wear them;<\/p>\n

Calling Gary Peters a \u201cscurrilous liar, cheat and wannabe,\u201d the Australian and New Zealand Military Imposters group said the former Ontario resident had worn medals he was not entitled to, including for service in Afghanistan and Iraq.<\/p>\n

Nor had he served in the Special Air Service, although its insignia is tattooed on his arm, the group said on its website. \u201cPeters has no entitlement to wear any of the above medals except perhaps the Australian Defence Medal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Confronted with the allegation, Mr. Peters acknowledged to the veterans group that he had been a \u201cprivate soldier driver\u201d in the Royal Australian Corps of Transport between 1991 and 1995 but had never served abroad, it added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

At the Bikers club, as shown in the photograph, Peters portrayed himself as a returned veteran by wearing the following medals and badges:<\/p>\n

Conspicuous Service Medal (CSM)
\nAustralian Active Service Medal (AASM)
\nAfghanistan Medal
\nIraq Medal
\nDefence Force Service Medal (DFSM)
\nAustralian Defence Medal (ADM)
\nInfantry Combat Badge (ICB)
\nSpecial Air Service (SAS) winged dagger.<\/p>\n

Peters has no entitlement to wear any of the above medals except perhaps the Australian Defence Medal. His Australian Military Service was as a Private Soldier Driver in the Royal Australian Corps of Transport from 1991 to 1995. He served only in Australia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
