Schmigel, a paratrooper with the 82d Airborne Division became the second casualty of that unit with  the T-11 parachute since it&#8217;s introduction in 2009. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Armywide, parachuting injuries are the sixth leading cause of hospitalizations among active-duty soldiers, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>But injury rates have improved over the decades.<\/p>\n<p>During World War II, there were 21 to 27 injuries per 1,000 jumps, according to officials. The 82nd Airborne&#8217;s historical injury rate is 11 per 1,000 jumps.<\/p>\n<p>The most common injuries on Fort Bragg over the 31\/2 year study were concussions, ankle sprains and lower back sprains, with concussions making up more than a third of all injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Fractured or broken bones accounted for about 13percent of all injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The T-11 was developed over several years in response to a need for Army parachutes to carry heavier loads.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/T-11-parachute.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25348\" title=\"T-11 parachute\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/T-11-parachute.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/T-11-parachute.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/T-11-parachute-300x193.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ROS sent us a link to the Stars &#038; Stripes which reports that SGT Shaina B. &hellip; <a title=\"RIP SGT Shaina B.
