Days when you feel kinda like you\u2019re Atlas holding up the world.<\/p>\n<p>And on such days, this one just . . . fits.\u00a0 Like few others I&#8217;ve ever heard.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ed1qfPU-9zE\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I pulled in to Nazarath, was feeling &#8217;bout half-past dead . . . . &#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Yeah, I think we\u2019ve all been there.  Probably more than once.<\/p>\n<p><strong>. . .<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Canadian \u2013 Robbie Robertson \u2013 wrote the song. But it was based largely on the experiences of one of his musical collaborators, Levon Helm, while growing up in the US South.<\/p>\n<p>In case you\u2019re wondering: yes, Carmen, Anna Lee, and Crazy Chester were all based on real people. Helm knew them all growing up in Arkansas.<\/p>\n<p>And if there was ever a more distinct voice in popular music than Levon Helms, I&#8217;ll be damned if I know who that would be.\u00a0 Hell, even Rod Stewart had a near clone (Bonnie Tyler).\u00a0 As far as I can tell, Helm was unique.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t think of anyone who sounds remotely like him.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve never heard them, two live versions of the tune are IMO also worth a listen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7ClbuVdhUpo\">This version<\/a> is from The Band&#8217;s farewell concert and film, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Last Waltz<\/span>; this version is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uSwbXR5YfA0\">outtake that didn\u2019t make it into the film<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested, YouTube has a fascinating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nV6952QFuh0\">documentary on The Band<\/a>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s about 1hr 15 min long; IMO it&#8217;s eminently worth the time.\u00a0 YMMV.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll return the site to it&#8217;s normal programming now.\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are days when the world wears on you.
