{"id":47094,"date":"2014-05-14T11:30:35","date_gmt":"2014-05-14T15:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=47094"},"modified":"2014-05-13T14:22:01","modified_gmt":"2014-05-13T18:22:01","slug":"army-to-cut-30000-troops-over-next-17-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=47094","title":{"rendered":"Army to Cut 30,000 Troops Over Next 17 Months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve written previously about BCTs affected by the Army\u2019s cutback plans.\u00a0 Well, courtesy of the <i>Army Times<\/i> we now have some additional information as to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/article\/20140512\/CAREERS\/305120014\/10K-soldiers-must-go-year-20K-next-year\">how the Army plans to implement the required personnel cutbacks.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Short version:\u00a0 10,000 will have to go this year.\u00a0 And next year, another 20,000.<\/p>\n<p>On 1 Apr, the Army\u2019s end strength was a hair under 520,000 \u2013 519,786, to be precise.\u00a0 By the end of FY2015, it must be 490,000.<\/p>\n<p>The math is pretty simple.\u00a0 520,000 minus 490,000 equals 30,000.<\/p>\n<p>About 15% of the expected reduction is projected to come via officer and NCO early separation boards.\u00a0 The source for the rest was not explicitly identified. However,\u00a0 those sources can be inferred from the Army\u2019s drawdown strategy, which<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>. . . features a combination of reduced recruiting and re-enlistment missions, early outs for short-timers who are headed to college or are in units scheduled for inactivation, and strict enforcement of disciplinary and performance standards.
