{"id":45946,"date":"2014-05-05T10:16:37","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T14:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=45946"},"modified":"2014-05-05T10:48:06","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T14:48:06","slug":"45946","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=45946","title":{"rendered":"More About the Current Army Cutbacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many have probably heard that the Army is cutting 10 Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) this year and next .\u00a0 It\u2019s doing this in order to reduce end-strength to 490,000 (active component) by the end of FY 2015.<\/p>\n<p>For those interested, here\u2019s the list of which units have\/are scheduled to inactivate.<\/p>\n<p>Already inactivated:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>4th BCT, 1st Cavalry Division (Fort Hood) <\/b>\u2013 inactivated last October<\/li>\n<li><b>4th Stryker BCT, 2nd Infantry Division (JB Lewis-McChord) <\/b>\u2013 inactivated in March<\/li>\n<li><b>4th BCT, 101st Airborne Division (Fort Cambell) <\/b>\u2013 inactivated in April<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scheduled to be inactivated:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>4th BCT, 82nd Airborne Division (Fort Bragg<\/b>) \u2013 to be inactivated in June<\/li>\n<li><b>3rd BCT, 1st Infantry Division (Fort Knox) <\/b>\u2013 to be inactivated in July<\/li>\n<li><b>3rd BCT, 10th Mountain Division (Fort Drum) <\/b>\u2013 to be inactivated this fall<\/li>\n<li><b>2nd BCT, 3rd Infantry Division (Fort Stewart) <\/b>\u2013 to be inactivated during winter 2015<\/li>\n<li><b>2nd BCT, 4th Infantry Division (Fort Carson) <\/b>\u2013 to be inactivated during winter 2015<\/li>\n<li><b>3rd BCT, 1st Armored Division (Fort Bliss) <\/b>\u2013 to be inactivated during spring 2015<\/li>\n<li><b>4th BCT, 1st Infantry Division (Fort Riley) <\/b>\u2013 to be inactivated during summer 2015<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The unit inactivations at Forts Knox, Carson, Bliss, and Riley will require a substantial number of soldiers to PCS.\u00a0 The unit inactivations at Forts Drum and Stewart will not require very many PCS moves, as soldiers assigned to the inactivating BCTs at those locations will be reassigned to other units on their current installation.<\/p>\n<p>The current reductions are in conjunction with scheduled Army end-strength reductions.\u00a0 They will reduce the Army\u2019s overall end strength to 980,000 (450,000 Active\/195,000 USAR\/335,000 ARNG) by FY 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Additional unit inactivations may be forthcoming.\u00a0 The Army is looking at potential options reducing the Army\u2019s overall strength further after 2017, to a possible end-strength of 920,000 (420,000 Active\/185,000 USAR\/315,000 ARNG).<\/p>\n<p>The Army Times <a href=\"http:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/article\/20140505\/NEWS\/305050018\/Army-outlines-plan-inactivate-7-brigade-combat-teams\">has a decent article<\/a> giving more details.\u00a0 It\u2019s worth reading if you have the time and inclination.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, we can give out free phones and pay for people\u2019s groceries while they sit on their azz, eat Cheetos, and play X-Box.\u00a0 And we can keep funding Social Security \u201cdisability\u201d and unemployment, and giveaway \u201cfree\u201d medical care subsidies.<\/p>\n<p>But we can\u2019t figure out how to pay for an adequate defense.\u00a0 And we don\u2019t seem to be able to figure out that Social Security and Medicare\u00a0 are about to go belly up \u2013 in about 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Ain\u2019t life wonderful?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many have probably heard that the Army is cutting 10 Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) this year &hellip;
