Recently, the Department of the Interior announced it was granting \u201cgreen energy\u201d producers operating wind farms 30-year permits to kill eagles.\u00a0 In essence, it was a recognition of the fact that such \u201cgreen energy\u201d programs are not free of significant detrimental environmental effects despite the claims to the contrary.<\/p>\n
The permits are likely essential.\u00a0 There\u2019s really no good way to keep birds from flying into such wind farms.\u00a0 For this form of \u201cgreen energy\u201d to be viable the companies operating wind farms need legal protection.<\/p>\n
So, all is good, right?\u00a0 Um, well . . . not exactly.<\/p>\n
It seems that an environmental group \u2013 the American Bird Conservancy \u2013 takes exception to this new rule.\u00a0 They\u2019ve announced their intent to file a Federal lawsuit<\/a> over this new rule.\u00a0 They\u2019re alleging it\u2019s a violation of three major environmental laws:\u00a0 the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.<\/p>\n I think this one is gonna be fun to watch. \u00a0(smile)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
