{"id":40356,"date":"2014-03-15T07:35:39","date_gmt":"2014-03-15T11:35:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=40356"},"modified":"2014-03-15T08:45:00","modified_gmt":"2014-03-15T12:45:00","slug":"an-icon-passes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=40356","title":{"rendered":"An Icon Passes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Literally.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2014\/03\/14\/man-known-as-kissing-sailor-in-wwii-era-picture-dies\/\"><strong><em>Man known as kissing sailor in WWII-era picture dies<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Glen McDuffie died last Sunday.\u00a0 He was 86.<\/p>\n<p>McDuffie was identified by forensic artist Lois Gibson of the Houston Police Department about 6 years ago as the sailor in this iconic photo of World War II:<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/9\/95\/Legendary_kiss_V%E2%80%93J_day_in_Times_Square_Alfred_Eisenstaedt.jpg\" \/><\/center><br \/>\nAlthough Gibson&#8217;s ID is not universally accepted (at least two others have claimed to be the sailor in the photo over the years), she is exceptionally well-respected in her field. Gibson is positive about her identification of McDuffie.<\/p>\n<p>McDuffie will be interred on 21 March 2014 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Rest in peace, my elder brother-in-arms.
