{"id":40178,"date":"2014-03-05T15:55:49","date_gmt":"2014-03-05T20:55:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=40178"},"modified":"2014-03-05T15:55:49","modified_gmt":"2014-03-05T20:55:49","slug":"bi-partisan-vote-against-obamas-doj-civil-rights-nominee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=40178","title":{"rendered":"Bi-partisan vote against Obama\u2019s DoJ civil rights nominee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2014\/mar\/5\/senate-blocks-obamas-civil-rights-nominee\/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&#038;utm_medium=RSS\">The Washington Times<\/a> reports that in a bi-partisan vote, the Senate voted against the president\u2019s nominee for the Department of Justice\u2019s Civil Rights head, Debo P. Adegbile. Of course, Harry Reid says that it was racism that drove the Republicans to vote against him. No word on what made the Democrats vote the way they did.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A furious Mr. Reid hinted that Republicans\u2019 opposition was based on racism, pointing to to several other black nominees that GOP senators had opposed earlier. But in the case of Mr. Adegbile, his defense of Abu-Jamal was too much for even some Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate blocked Mr. Adegbile on a 52-47 vote, with eight Democrats voting along with Republicans for the filibuster. One of those was Mr. Reid, who had to change to vote for the filibuster in order to be able to ask for an eventual re-vote \u2014 which he did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe it\u2019s time that America had a good discussion on civil rights,\u201d Mr. Reid fumed.<\/p>\n<p>Signifying the heft of the vote, Vice President Joseph R.
