{"id":40171,"date":"2014-03-05T07:20:27","date_gmt":"2014-03-05T12:20:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=40171"},"modified":"2014-03-05T07:20:27","modified_gmt":"2014-03-05T12:20:27","slug":"va-budget-increases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=40171","title":{"rendered":"VA budget increases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/news\/va-budget-to-get-10-1-billion-increase-under-white-house-plan-1.271196\">Stars &#038; Stripes <\/a>reports that the Obama Administration is proposing a $10 billion increase to the Department of Veterans Affairs;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> The budget features $59.1 billion for medical care, approximately $1.6 billion to prevent or reduce veterans\u2019 homelessness and $312 million for burgeoning technologies that officials hope will address the claims backlog and help them meet 2015 elimination goals, according to a VA statement.<\/p>\n<p>The budget also features $1 billion for veterans\u2019 job programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis budget will allow us to continue the progress we have made in helping Veterans secure their place in the middle class,\u201d Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki said in the statement. \u201cIt is a tangible demonstration of the President\u2019s commitment to ensuring Veterans and their families have the care and benefits they\u2019ve earned and deserve.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Somehow, I don&#8217;t believe the rhetoric. While I appreciate the words, it&#8217;s the actions that really mean something. The President wants to push retirees out of the Tricare system and into the VA healthcare system, to get the Defense Department out of the healthcare business.
