{"id":40010,"date":"2014-02-25T10:34:27","date_gmt":"2014-02-25T15:34:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=40010"},"modified":"2014-02-25T10:34:27","modified_gmt":"2014-02-25T15:34:27","slug":"vas-solution-to-backlog-destroy-claims-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=40010","title":{"rendered":"VA&#8217;s solution to backlog; destroy claims records"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I saw <a href=\"http:\/\/concernedveteransforamerica.org\/\">Concerned Veterans for America<\/a> CEO Pete Hegseth on Fox this morning talking about a recording of a meeting at Veterans&#8217; Affairs in which they discussed a solution to their serious backlog of veterans&#8217; claims. That solution was to toss records, because they were beginning to look bad, according to a whistleblower, Oliver Mitchell, also a former Marine, as reported at <a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2014\/02\/24\/va-employees-destroyed-veterans-medical-records-to-cancel-backlogged-exam-requests-audio\/\">The Daily Caller<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>VA Greater Los Angeles Radiology department chief Dr. Suzie El-Saden initiated an \u201congoing discussion in the department\u201d to cancel exam requests and destroy veterans\u2019 medical files so that no record of the exam requests would exist, thus reducing the backlog, Mitchell said.<\/p>\n<p>Audio from a November 2008 meeting obtained by TheDC depicts VA Greater Los Angeles officials plotting to cancel backlogged exam requests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m still canceling orders from 2001,\u201d said a male official in the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnything over a year old should be canceled,\u201d replied a female official.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanceled or scheduled?\u201d asked the male official.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanceled. \u2026 Your backlog should start at April \u201907,\u201d the female official replied, later adding, \u201da lot of those patients either had their studies somewhere else, had their surgery \u2026 died, don\u2019t live in the state. \u2026 It\u2019s ridiculous.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the recording;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XnvhdV2DD0g\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When Mitchell blew the whistle on the operation, he was transferred to another department. The VA OIG simply made the department aware of Mitchell&#8217;s complaint instead of taking appropriate action. When Mitchell went to Congress with his complaint, he was fired from the DVA.
