{"id":39758,"date":"2014-02-11T16:01:23","date_gmt":"2014-02-11T21:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=39758"},"modified":"2014-02-11T16:03:48","modified_gmt":"2014-02-11T21:03:48","slug":"holder-wants-felons-to-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=39758","title":{"rendered":"Holder wants felons to vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Green Thumb and Pinto Nag sent us a link to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/its-time-let-felons-vote-holder-says-n26906\">NBC News<\/a> which reports that Attorney General Holder at a Washington, D.C. symposium on sentencing laws made the crack that felons should be allowed to vote;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Holder said the restrictions bar 5.8 million Americans from casting a ballot, including 2.2 million African-Americans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nearly one in 13 African-American adults are banned from voting because of these laws. In three states &#8212; Florida, Kentucky, and Virginia &#8212; that ratio climbs to one in five,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Holder called the laws a vestige of post-Civil War racial discrimination, with a disproportionately high impact on minority communities.<\/p>\n<p>The laws were not intended to improve public safety but rather &#8220;to stigmatize, shame, and shut out a person who had been found guilty of a crime.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Um, no, the laws were written so that law abiding citizens didn&#8217;t have their vote diluted by a criminal element. So that law abiding citizens didn&#8217;t have to live under a tyranny created by 5.8 million voters who have already proven that they don&#8217;t make good decisions. If they feel stigmatized, shamed or shut out, maybe there&#8217;s a reason for it. Maybe he thinks that those same felons should own guns, I&#8217;m sure they feel shamed that can&#8217;t own weapons, too.
