Another one from Scotty<\/a>, Dennis McCracken<\/a> claims that he was in the 2\/7th Cavalry in Vietnam September 1965 – June 1966. He claims then that he went to Germany and was assigned to 8th Infantry Division’s 1\/509th which was one of two Airborne battalions in the 8th Division in those days, in Mainz, after Vietnam.<\/p>\n

Well, he was in the Army during that period;<\/p>\n

But, according to his 2-1, he enlisted in June 1966 and he was in Officer Candidate School in 1967 so he’s claiming that he was in Vietnam before he enlisted;<\/p>\n

He did get assigned to the 8th Infantry Division after OCS, but his 2-1 says not with the 509th. There isn’t even a pair of jump wings in his FOIA or jump school on his 2-1. In the picture at the top of the post, he’s claiming that he was the battlion S-2 for the 1\/509th, but there aren’t any jump wings on his uniform. Why would an airborne battalion want a nasty “leg” (not that there’s anything wrong with that) on their staff?<\/p>\n

I have a friend who sat out his draft service in Germany around the same time and he’s never tried to tell anyone that he was in Vietnam. He was called and he served when many people didn’t, or wouldn’t, and he’s proud of that. Mr. McCracken should do the same. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
