{"id":39648,"date":"2014-02-05T15:08:59","date_gmt":"2014-02-05T20:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=39648"},"modified":"2014-02-05T15:13:52","modified_gmt":"2014-02-05T20:13:52","slug":"phil-carter-struggles-to-remain-relevant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=39648","title":{"rendered":"Phil Carter struggles to remain relevant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Phil Carter, one of the co-founders of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, that completely useless organization headed by valor thief, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=30749\">Paul Reickhoff<\/a>, and Obama&#8217;s veteran adviser for his 2008 campaign, wrote in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/ad-only-adds-to-military-s-alcohol-problem-1.265781\">Foreign Policy<\/a> a little piece about how you folks aren&#8217;t mature enough to make choices in your life because the popular culture has a firm grasp on your mind.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s complaining about the Budweiser commercial that ran during the Superbowl. Here it is if you missed it;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K7L5QByvXOQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Carter writes;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Despite all that data, the military has a long and complex relationship with alcohol. In past wars, active-duty servicemembers drank on the battlefield. Booze stains the occasional page of many World War I and II veterans\u2019 memoirs. \u201cBand of Brothers\u201d veteran Dick Winters writes of his troops\u2019 liberation of Hermann Goering\u2019s wine cellar at the end of their fight across Europe. In Korea and Vietnam, our troops drank too, often to excess. Such was the nature of war, and the military embraced alcohol as part of the wartime experience.<\/p>\n<p>That changed with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, where the military instituted policies explicitly banning all deployed troops from consuming alcohol. There was a good reason for those rules, which is the same reason Sunday night\u2019s Super Bowl ad went too far. Alcohol can lead to depression, worsen PTSD and \u2014 in some cases \u2014 accelerate the downward spiral that leads to suicide. Decades of research should have persuaded the Army to avoid getting in bed with Budweiser. Better for at-risk soldiers to hear a simple truth: This Bud isn\u2019t for you.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Good thing Phil Carter is looking out for us dumb grunts who are going to drink a wagon load of beer because we watched that ad.
