Best estimates are that about 5 million individuals have received health insurance cancellation notices so far due to the requirements of the law known as the Patently Puerile Abominably-Crafted Asininity<\/del> Patient Protection and “Affordable” Care Act (PPACA).\u00a0 But to re-purpose an old song title, regarding insurance cancellations due to the PPACA it looks like “you ain’t seen nothing yet”.<\/p>\n

It seems as if many firms got around new PPACA requirements by renewing their group coverage policies this year<\/a>.\u00a0 That allowed them to take advantage of a one-year waiver granted many businesses on PPACA requirements for existing policies.<\/p>\n

They won’t be able to do that again next year.\u00a0 Some estimates say that could mean between 10 and 20 times as many people could receive cancellation notices next year<\/a> – starting in October.\u00a0 That’s 50 to 100 million more pending insurance cancellations next year.<\/p>\n

Gee, what was that promise?\u00a0 “If you like your current plan, you can keep it” – or words to that effect?\u00a0 Gee thanks, Mr. President.<\/p>\n

A second prediction regarding the PPACA also seems to be coming true.\u00a0 Although the current Administration keeps claiming that such reports are “anecdotal”, recent data indicates that 27 percent of franchise businesses and 12% of non-franchise businesses have replaced at least some full-time workers with part-time employees.\u00a0 See the end of the article at the second link above.<\/p>\n

When nearly 1 out of 8 non-franchise businesses, and more than 1 out of 4 franchise businesses, report doing something, folks – that’s no longer something that can be validly termed “anecdotal”.\u00a0 Rather, it’s now a demonstrated fact.<\/p>\n

The PPACA’s insurance requirements only apply to businesses with 50 or more full-time workers.\u00a0 Given the skyrocketing cost of medical insurance under the PPACA, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why using part-time workers is suddenly so attractive to business.<\/p>\n

All of this was eminently predictable.\u00a0 Well, it was to anyone with common sense who hadn’t “drunk the Kool-Aid”, anyway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
