{"id":38080,"date":"2013-10-21T16:15:19","date_gmt":"2013-10-21T20:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=38080"},"modified":"2013-10-21T16:15:19","modified_gmt":"2013-10-21T20:15:19","slug":"backlog-claims-fall-at-va-says-va","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=38080","title":{"rendered":"Backlog claims fall at VA, says VA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2013\/10\/21\/va-claims-backlog-fell-during-shutdown.html?comp=7000023317843&#038;rank=2\">Military.com<\/a> reports that the Veterans&#8217; Administration is telling us that their backlog of claims has fallen since the government shutdown began, despite the fact that they said the shutdown would hinder their progress;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In an email, VA officials acknowledged that the backlog did not increase during the shutdown but insisted that it did remain flat during the days department funding was restricted. That ignores a Oct. 14 report putting the backlog about 6,000 cases lower than where Shinseki had indicated just a few days earlier.<\/p>\n<p>The department attributes the 10,000-case drop from Sept. 28 to Oct. 19 to the five non-shutdown days included in that reporting period, and the \u201chard work of our Veterans Benefit Administration employees\u201d despite the distraction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, since VA operations were funded before the shutdown, the convenient excuse of the shutdown really didn&#8217;t apply, other than cutting back overtime hours.
