{"id":37890,"date":"2013-10-11T06:02:36","date_gmt":"2013-10-11T10:02:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=37890"},"modified":"2013-10-11T08:29:33","modified_gmt":"2013-10-11T12:29:33","slug":"a-really-bad-idea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=37890","title":{"rendered":"A Really Bad Idea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaljournal.com\/national-security\/soon-drones-may-be-able-to-make-lethal-decisions-on-their-own-20131008\">article in the National Journal<\/a> says that it may soon be possible for Remotely Piloted Aircraft (AKA &#8220;drones&#8221;) to make independent decisions on whether to engage targets.\u00a0 In short, soon it might be possible that they&#8217;ll be lethally-armed robots.\u00a0 No humans involved.<\/p>\n<p>Technologically, this may be possible one day soon &#8211; at least under certain circumstances. It would indeed have the effect of removing a potential source of mission failure:\u00a0 comm problems.\u00a0 (No comm required means a greatly reduced chance that a comm failure could impact the mission.)\u00a0 It might also lead to fewer members of our military being placed at risk.<\/p>\n<p>Still, IMO this would be a monumentally bad idea.\u00a0 I hope we never opt to go down this particular path.\u00a0 And that goes for\u00a0both unmanned ground and unmanned sea systems, too.<\/p>\n<p>Why?\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/pub.psi.cc\/ihnmaims.txt\">Read this<\/a> (it&#8217;s not that long).
