Their goal is to fight the war to a stalemate. Von Clauswitz and Sun Tzu are spinning in their graves.

The CIA’s mission, officials said, has been defined by the White House’s desire to seek a political settlement, a scenario that relies on an eventual stalemate among the warring factions rather than a clear victor. As a result, officials said, limits on the agency’s authorities enable it to provide enough support to help ensure that politically moderate, U.S.-supported militias don’t lose but not enough for them to win.

Whoever heard of such a thing? Planning on fighting a war to a stand off. Since the civil war has gone on for years in Syria, so obviously, that stand off red line has been reached. There’s no money to keep open air national monuments, but there’s enough money to send trainers half-a-world away to teach people how not to win a war?

If this was a movie, no one would pay a penny to see it because it’s so unbelievable.

The agency has trained fewer than 1,000 rebel fighters this year, current and former U.S. officials said. By contrast, U.S. intelligence analysts estimate that more than 20,000 have been trained to fight for government-backed militias by Assad’s ally Iran and the Hezbollah militant network it sponsors.

It all seems so pointless.

The Washington Post reports that the CIA is currently training a handful of “moderate” Syrian rebels, … CIA fighting a half-assed proxy warRead more

[7

post-37811","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-terror-war
["GET
