Salim Idriss, has no real control over rebel units, though Washington is trusting him to keep American arms from extremists.<\/p>\n<p>Second, the council\u2019s fighting group \u2014 the Free Syrian Army \u2014 operates brigades living and working with the Nusra Front, an al Qaeda-linked terrorist group with about 6,000 members. Sometimes they fight among themselves; sometimes they cooperate.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters news agency reported Friday that two rebel groups, the Raqqah Revolutionary Brigades and God&#8217;s Victory Brigade, had abandoned the Free Syrian Army and pledged loyalty to al Qaeda.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But, hey, as with everything else, we have to do &#8220;something&#8221; even if it blows up in our face, right? And we wouldn&#8217;t be the US if we drew lessons from history.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Commanders told Gen.
