{"id":37293,"date":"2013-08-28T12:00:24","date_gmt":"2013-08-28T16:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=37293"},"modified":"2013-08-28T11:56:54","modified_gmt":"2013-08-28T15:56:54","slug":"oh-for-petes-sake-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=37293","title":{"rendered":"Oh, For Pete&#8217;s Sake . . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Multiple media organizations are reporting that the US will strike Syria as early as tomorrow.\u00a0 And they\u2019re also reporting that Administration officials are making no secret about what we\u2019re planning to do &#8211; or our objectives.<\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t go through all the details; <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424127887324591204579039011328308776.html\">the WSJ article here<\/a> does an excellent job of summarizing them.\u00a0 But I will respond to a couple of points raised in the article:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>\u201c \u2018I want to make clear that the options that we are considering are not about regime change,\u2019 White House spokesman Jay Carney said Tuesday. \u201c<\/i>\u00a0 Uh, Mr. Carney \u2013 the explicit goal of the Syrian rebels IS &#8220;regime change&#8221;.\u00a0 If that&#8217;s not our goal, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">then why in the hell are we intervening on the side of the \u201cSyrian rebels\u201d at all<\/span>?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>\u201cThe New York Times, quoting a Pentagon official, adds that \u2018the initial target list has fewer than 50 sites, including air bases where Syria&#8217;s Russian-made attack helicopters are deployed.\u2019 &#8220;<\/i>\u00a0 Gee, that\u2019s wonderful.\u00a0 The best military strategy in the world is to tell your opponent what you\u2019re planning to do before doing it so they can get ready.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It seems to me that we\u2019re going to use a limited application of US military force to \u201csend a message\u201d vice engage decisively in Syria. \u00a0I hope the hell I\u2019m wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Why do I hope I&#8217;m wrong?\u00a0 Can you say \u201cROLLING THUNDER\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>We all know how well that worked out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Multiple media organizations are reporting that the US will strike Syria as early as tomorrow.\u00a0 And &hellip; <a title=\"Oh, For Pete&#8217;s Sake . . . .\" class=\"hm-read-more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=37293\"><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Oh, For Pete&#8217;s Sake . . . .<\/span>Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":623,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[209,84],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-37293","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-teh-stoopid","category-military-issues"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37293","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/623"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=37293"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37293\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=37293"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=37293"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=37293"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
