{"id":37224,"date":"2013-08-24T15:58:23","date_gmt":"2013-08-24T19:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=37224"},"modified":"2013-08-24T15:58:23","modified_gmt":"2013-08-24T19:58:23","slug":"texas-to-treat-hasans-victims-as-combat-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=37224","title":{"rendered":"Texas to treat Hasan&#8217;s victims as combat veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.statesman.com\/news\/news\/local\/texas-veterans-land-board-to-treat-fort-hood-victi\/nZbSC\/\">Austin Statesman<\/a> reports that the Texas Veterans&#8217; Land Board has decided that they&#8217;ll give the same benefits to the victims of the Fort Hood shootings as they would give to any combat-injured veteran;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson announced Friday that the Texas Veterans Land Board, which provides loans and retirement home services to veterans and their families, will treat the spouses of those killed in the Nov. 5, 2009, Fort Hood shooting \u201cas if they were killed in combat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to change the rules to give these families full access to VLB benefits,\u201d Patterson said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019ll let the lawyers work out the details, but I intend to make sure we honor their sacrifice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Like Travis and Crockett, their spilled blood remains forever intermingled with Texas soil.
