Preston sends us a link to the story for today<\/a> in which an elderly Bedford, Iowa couple turned around the life of a recent prison escapee;<\/p>\n

Authorities said Rodney Long forced his way into the couple’s home at 2609 Highland Avenue about 10:15 p.m. and held them for the next four hours.<\/p>\n

The couple said Long was armed with a semi automatic handgun. He had also taken their phones.<\/p>\n

The couple, ages 71 and 66, decided to defend themselves, authorities said. They were not seriously hurt in the incident.<\/p>\n

About 2 a.m., the couple called 911 to report the shooting. An Iowa State trooper was on the road nearby and responded immediately to the home.<\/p>\n

The trooper found Long dead face down on the kitchen floor of the couple’s home.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Apparently, Mr. Long had shot a sheriff’s deputy earlier and the deputy is recovering from his confrontation with Long. So high-fives all around.<\/p>\n
