{"id":37147,"date":"2013-08-19T07:33:44","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T11:33:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=37147"},"modified":"2013-08-19T07:33:44","modified_gmt":"2013-08-19T11:33:44","slug":"illinois-gets-expanded-background-checks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=37147","title":{"rendered":"Illinois gets expanded background checks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Andy sends us a link to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2013\/08\/19\/us-usa-guns-illinois-idUSBRE97I00X20130819\">Reuters<\/a> which explain Illinois&#8217; expanded background checks laws which go into effect January 1, 2014;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Previously in Illinois, where Democrats control the state legislature but remain sharply divided over firearms safety, only adults buying guns from a licensed firearms dealer or at a gun show in the state have been subject to background checks.<\/p>\n<p>Those buyers must have a firearm owners identification (FOID) card, which is issued by Illinois state police to applicants who pass a screening of state criminal and mental health records. The seller must then call a state-run hotline to check that a buyer&#8217;s FOID card is valid before making the sale.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new law, gun sales or transfers between private parties, including those that take place online, will have to follow the same system.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure Lil Killah and D-bag will be taking time out of their busy crime sprees to get FOID cards and comparing them when they transfer their gats back and forth. But the governor thinks that these new laws will actually do something because &#8220;Guns are a plague on too many of our communities&#8221;.
