Most of you know about my disdain for sergeant majors, especially those who have avoided combat during this particular period service, you know, during the last twelve years of war when it’s been said that our troops are worn out from their multiple deployments. So a sergeant major who hasn’t deployed, got a Legion of Merit medal on her way out the door and now wants to sue the Army gets no respect. Yes, it’s now-civilian Teresa King, formerly the commandant of the drill sergeant academy at Fort Jackson – the folks who train the people who train the people who did deploy – wants a $10 million paycheck. \u201cA lot of the combat arms guys (apparently) thought they didn\u2019t have to meet the standards to be drill sergeants \u2013 that I was going to give \u2019em a hat,\u201d King said in a recent interview, meaning giving unqualified soldiers an unearned pass to be a drill sergeant. \u201cAnd a lot of the male, combat arms officer, Ranger-types \u2013 they didn\u2019t think I should be in that position. So they defamed me. They wouldn\u2019t even talk to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

King said the mistreatment stemmed from three things: \u201cIt was because I was female, (had) no combat experience, and third because I was black. They wouldn\u2019t talk to me; they would talk to my deputy and send me a note. They refused to work with me. Only a couple, maybe, had a discussion with me about the Drill Sergeant School.<\/p>\n

\u201cOther than that, my leadership, my superiors, all those sergeant majors that were supposed to support the school, they refused to interact with me because they didn\u2019t like how I looked, and (felt) I shouldn\u2019t be turning away their boys, because this is a boys\u2019 job and I shouldn\u2019t be in it,\u201d King said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, well, a POG who avoided twelve years of deployments to combat should just sit down and take her little medals and her fat pension for making people pick up cigarette butts around the NCO club for 32 years and shut up, unless she wants the evidence of the reasons she was investigated in the first place revealed to the public. From what I hear, the three reasons that she complains were the reasons that she was targeted are the same three reasons she was allowed to retire without punishment.<\/p>\n
