The Associated Press article on Sarah Palin\u2019s comments about William Ayers is a Category 7 jaw-dropper. Apparently, now even criticizing Obama\u2019s associations with white<\/em> violent radicals is racist:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Michelle Malkin<\/a>, of course, takes the cake;<\/p>\n

Putting the \u201cAss\u201d in \u201cAssociated Press,\u201d one of the wire service\u2019s Obama water-carriers attempts to smear Sarah Palin as a racist for spotlighting Barack Obama\u2019s longtime relationships with Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The most troubling quote on the Associated Press<\/a> piece is some of the last paragraphs;<\/p>\n

Whether intended or not by the McCain campaign, portraying Obama as “not like us” is another potential appeal to racism. It suggests that the Hawaiian-born Christian is, at heart, un-American.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most troubling, however, is how allowing racism to creep into the discussion serves McCain’s purpose so well. As the fallout from Wright’s sermons showed earlier this year, forcing Obama to abandon issues to talk about race leads to unresolved arguments about America’s promise to treat all people equally.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Where did Douglass Daniel, the author, get the “not like us” quote? It wasn’t from Palin…it was from Obama himself who’s fond of reminding his zombies that Republicans are going to continually remind voters that Obama is not like us and has a funny name.So Daniel and the AP have taken to using Obama quotes and inserting them in articles about his Republican opponents in quotations as if the Republicans and not Obama said it.<\/p>\n

Douglass also compares Palin’s casual mention of the Ayers\/Obama connection with the Swiftboat Veterans;<\/p>\n

Effective character attacks have come earlier in campaigns. In June 1988, Republican George H.W. Bush criticized Democrat Michael Dukakis over the furlough granted to Willie Horton, a convicted murderer who then raped a woman and stabbed her companion. Related TV ads followed in September and October.<\/p>\n

The Vietnam-era Swift Boat veterans who attacked Democrat John Kerry’s war record started in the spring of 2004 and gained traction in late summer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well, if the media had done it’s job and investigated the connection last year, the Republicans wouldn’t have to bring it up now would they? The Swiftboat Veterans haven’t been proven wrong, maybe AP would like to present some convincing evidence that there’s nothing to the Ayers\/Obama relationship? Something besides a wave of their meaty paws.<\/p>\n

And CNN<\/a> is trying to enlist Stanley Kurtz of the National Review in their attacks on Palin;<\/p>\n

I was very briefly on CNN immediately after the McCain campaign called for me to be given access to UIC library. A CNN reporter interviewed me, and almost every question was an attempt to challenge the significance of the Obama-Ayers link. I answered every query in detail. When the report finally aired, my points about the significance of the Obama-Ayers connection were cut.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
