{"id":36505,"date":"2013-07-04T08:30:23","date_gmt":"2013-07-04T12:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=36505"},"modified":"2013-07-04T08:30:23","modified_gmt":"2013-07-04T12:30:23","slug":"sanford-fl-pd-rethinks-its-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=36505","title":{"rendered":"Sanford, FL PD rethinks it&#8217;s awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Russel sends us a link to Military Times blog <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.militarytimes.com\/battle-rattle\/2013\/07\/03\/police-department-cancels-use-of-dod-ribbons-following-navy-cross-recipients-call\/\">Battle Rattle<\/a> which reports that the Sanford, Florida Police Department is changing the awards that they give to their officers to something that is less like the Department of Defense awards;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt certainly wasn\u2019t meant to be offensive to anyone,\u201d McAuliffe told Marine Corps Times. \u201cIt was a matter of convenience and obviously wasn\u2019t well thought out. But it\u2019s been rectified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the department changed their awards system about 10 years ago, McAuliffe said there wasn\u2019t a lot of access to police-specific awards. Since then, they\u2019ve found places where they can purchase awards designed for police officers, and they\u2019ll move in that direction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, I guess it&#8217;s good that they&#8217;re finally putting a little thought into it instead of just taking the easier route out of the dilemma. In other related news in the story, Jeremiah Workman, the Navy Cross awardee who brought this whole issue to our attention announces that he&#8217;s starting his own stolen valor website;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Workman said spotting ribbons he found questionable just by catching some testimony on TV is good practice for the website he\u2019s launching to call out military fakers.
