MSN<\/a> reports that Egypt’s President Morsi is ignoring the country’s military leaders who gave him 48 hours to reach an agreement with protesters over the political future of the fledgling government;<\/p>\n

Describing civilian rule as a great gain from the revolution of 2011, Morsi said he would not let the clock be turned back.<\/p>\n

He spoke to U.S. President Barack Obama by phone on Monday, stressing that Egypt was moving forward with a democratic transition. The White House said Obama encouraged him to respond to the protests and “underscored that the current crisis can only be resolved through a political process.”<\/p>\n

Yasser El-Shimy, Egypt analyst at the International Crisis Group, said the army ultimatum had hardened positions on either side, making it very difficult to find a constitutional way out of the crisis: “Things could deteriorate very rapidly from there, either through confrontations on the street, or international sanctions,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Mursi is calling their bluff, saying to them, ‘if you are going to do this, you will have to do it over my dead body’.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I don’t see the military having any problem with that decision.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Committee to Protect Journalists<\/a> reports that seven reporters have been injured in the rioting in Egypt, one has been killed and female Dutch reporter has been raped;<\/p>\n

The bomb was hurled at protesters in Shuhada Square; [Salah al-Din Hassan, 37-year-old reporter with independent news website Shaab Masr (Egyptian People)] picked it up to throw it away but it exploded, killing him and injuring 16 others, according to news reports. Ayda Sobh, Hassan’s mother, blamed Morsi’s supporters for hurling the bomb, according to the reports. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to Egyptian news reports, the woman was a television reporter who was raped by unidentified men as she tried to cover the beginnings of the protests. A state hospital issued a statement on Sunday saying the woman was hospitalized for two days and had to undergo surgery. Egyptian authorities are investigating, according to the Dutch embassy’s statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
