{"id":36267,"date":"2013-06-16T07:28:36","date_gmt":"2013-06-16T11:28:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=36267"},"modified":"2013-06-16T07:28:36","modified_gmt":"2013-06-16T11:28:36","slug":"norway-votes-to-draft-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=36267","title":{"rendered":"Norway votes to draft women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tom sends us a link to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2013\/06\/14\/us-norway-women-conscription-idUSBRE95D0NB20130614\">Reuters<\/a> which reports that Norway has become the first NATO nation to draft women. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Rights and duties should be the same for all,&#8221; said Labor lawmaker Laila Gustavsen, a supporter of the bill. &#8220;The armed forces need access to the best resources, regardless of gender, and right now mostly men are recruited.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Norway has been at the forefront in the fight for gender equality, introducing measures such as requiring all public limited companies to fill at least 40 percent of their board seats with women. On Wednesday the country celebrated a century since Norwegian women won the right to vote.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is historic. For me it is fantastic to make history, for the armed forces and for women,&#8221; Gustavsen said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But I don&#8217;t see the US making the move to be &#8220;historic&#8221;.
