{"id":361,"date":"2007-05-23T06:50:39","date_gmt":"2007-05-23T11:50:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/2007\/05\/23\/democrats-surrender-to-president\/"},"modified":"2007-05-23T10:08:04","modified_gmt":"2007-05-23T15:08:04","slug":"democrats-surrender-to-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=361","title":{"rendered":"Democrats surrender to President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I&#8217;ve been saying, the Democrats woke up to reality and discovered that pandering to the vocal, but tiny rush-to-surrender\u00c2\u00a0minority of the far Left isn&#8217;t getting them anywhere among voters the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/05\/22\/AR2007052201329.html?hpid=topnews\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Post<\/a> reports today;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Democrats gave up their demand for troop-withdrawal deadlines in an Iraq war spending package yesterday, abandoning their top goal of bringing U.S. troops home and handing President Bush a victory in a debate that has roiled Congress for months.<\/p>\n<p>Bush, who has already vetoed one spending bill with a troop timeline, had threatened to do the same with the next version if it came with such a condition. Democratic leaders had moved ahead anyway, under heavy pressure from liberals who believe that the party won control of Congress in November on the strength of antiwar sentiment. But in the end, Democrats said they did not have enough votes to override a presidential veto and could not delay troop funding.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So all of that blather about &#8220;the will of the American people&#8221;, falls by the wayside as reality strikes a\u00c2\u00a0bitter blow. But, all of the Democrats are still in Leftist dreamland, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washtimes.com\/national\/20070523-123736-6145r.htm\" target=\"_blank\">S.A. Miller of the Washington Times<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s the president&#8217;s legislation, not the Democrats&#8217;,&#8221; said Rep. Lynn Woolsey, California Democrat and co-founder of the Out of Iraq Caucus. &#8220;It&#8217;s going to take Republicans to pass it.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Sen. Russ Feingold, Wisconsin Democrat and one of the chamber&#8217;s loudest antiwar voices, called the benchmarks &#8220;toothless.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;There has been a lot of tough talk from members of Congress about wanting to end this war, but it looks like the desire for political comfort won out over real action,&#8221; he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Political comfort, Russ? How about political reality.<\/p>\n<p>So I figure the jihadists next move to try and defeat our political will,\u00c2\u00a0you can bet, will\u00c2\u00a0be a strike here in this country. Shouldn&#8217;t be hard to volunteers, according to AP via\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/story\/0,2933,274934,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">Fox News<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One in four younger U.S. Muslims said in a poll that homicide bombings to defend their religion are acceptable at least in some circumstances, though most Muslim Americans overwhelmingly reject the tactic and are critical of Islamic extremism and Al Qaeda.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So I guess a quarter of the guys I eyeball on the subway here in DC are willing to accept terror.
