{"id":35590,"date":"2013-05-13T19:13:54","date_gmt":"2013-05-13T23:13:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=35590"},"modified":"2013-05-13T20:04:19","modified_gmt":"2013-05-14T00:04:19","slug":"a-message-from-one-of-our-gold-star-moms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=35590","title":{"rendered":"A message from one of our Gold Star Moms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I apologize to everyone, I&#8217;d fully intended to post this article yesterday by one of our resident Gold Star Mothers, Denise Williams who publishes at the <a href=\"http:\/\/plainfield.patch.com\/blog_posts\/flowers-from-strangers\">Plainfield Patch<\/a>. Late is sometimes better than never, I hope that&#8217;s the case today, in this Mothers&#8217; Day message &#8220;Flowers From Strangers &#8220;;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>To say there is no other loss like that of an only child is an understatement of epic proportions. The fact there is nothing with which to compare it is evident in the lack of a word in the English language to describe this loss. I am no longer a mom, though I was once.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, I\u2019m not alone in this position of having once been a mother to an only child. Thankfully, I\u2019m not alone as I\u2019m in contact with other women, most of whom I\u2019ve never met in person, who understand me in ways no one else can. I\u2019m heartsick knowing how many of us are out there but grateful beyond words we have found each other.<\/p>\n<p>Still, grief is a solitary journey. Even members of the same family will grieve differently. We each have our own thoughts and feelings, many of them shared but just as many are our own to bear, struggle with, take comfort from and even reject.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not comfortable with many of those quaint phrases that seem to give others comfort. \u201cI\u2019m the mom of an Angel\u201d, \u201cMy son deployed to Heaven\u201d, \u201cGod needed another Angel\u201d, or \u201cGod too gave his only son\u201d not only give me no comfort, they often make me angry.
