{"id":35574,"date":"2013-05-13T05:59:38","date_gmt":"2013-05-13T09:59:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=35574"},"modified":"2013-05-13T06:12:34","modified_gmt":"2013-05-13T10:12:34","slug":"about-that-irs-thing-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=35574","title":{"rendered":"More About that &#8220;IRS Thing&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems that those questionable IRS activities that Doc Bailey wrote about <b><a href=\"..\/?p=35562\">the other day<\/a><\/b> appear to be a little broader than just a targeting of Conservative advocacy groups for auditing.\u00a0 The <i>Washington Post<\/i> reports that a somewhat broader group of organizations was apparently targeted for \u201cspecial attention\u201d by our \u201cesteemed\u201d Tax Lords.\u00a0 What other groups, you might ask? Well, I\u2019ll <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/post-politics\/wp\/2013\/05\/12\/irs-targeted-groups-that-criticized-the-government-ig-report-says\/\">let the <i>Post<\/i> tell you<\/a><\/b>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The documents, obtained by The Washington Post from a congressional aide with knowledge of the findings, show that on June 29, 2011, IRS staffers held a briefing with senior agency official Lois G. Lerner in which they described giving special attention to instances where \u201cstatements in the case file criticize how the country is being run.\u201d Lerner, who\u00a0oversees tax-exempt groups for the agency, raised objections and the agency revised its criteria a week later.<\/p>\n<p>But six months later, the IRS applied a new political test to groups that applied for tax-exempt status as \u201csocial welfare\u201d groups, the document says. On Jan. 15, 2012 the agency decided to target \u201cpolitical action type organizations involved in limiting\/expanding Government, educating on the Constitution and Bill of Rights, social economic reform movement.,\u201d according to the appendix in the IG report, which was requested by the\u00a0House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and\u00a0has yet to be released.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It also seems that Jewish groups may have been included in those singled out for additional scrutiny by the IRS.\u00a0 <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewishpress.com\/news\/irs-punished-conservative-non-profits-perhaps-also-pro-israel-groups\/2013\/05\/11\/\">According to the J<i>ewish Press<\/i><\/a><\/b>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>. . . in 2010, the passionately pro-Israel organization Z STREET filed a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zstreet.org\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=258%3Az-st-v-irs-amended-complaint&amp;catid=1&amp;Itemid=39\" target=\"_blank\"> lawsuit<\/a> against the IRS, claiming it had been told by an IRS agent that because the organization was \u201cconnected to Israel,\u201d its application for tax-exempt status would receive additional scrutiny.\u00a0 This admission was made in response to a query about the lengthy reveiw (sic) of Z STREET\u2019s tax exempt status application.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the IRS agent told a Z STREET representative that the applications of some of those Israel-related organizations have been assigned to \u201ca special unit in the D.C. office to determine whether the organization\u2019s activities contradict the Administration\u2019s public policies.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yeah, I\u2019d guess someone\u2019s got some \u2018splainin\u2019 to do here.\u00a0 And I kinda wonder who else might be on that \u201cenemies list\u201d at the IRS &#8211; and who gave it to them.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and that &#8220;bastion of conservative thought&#8221; Joe Klein seems kinda <a href=\"http:\/\/swampland.time.com\/2013\/05\/11\/irs-mess\/\"><strong>pissed about the IRS targeting conservative groups<\/strong><\/a>, too.\u00a0 I wonder if he&#8217;s going to go totally bonzo when he sees these new revelations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It seems that those questionable IRS activities that Doc Bailey wrote about the other day appear &hellip; <a title=\"More About that &#8220;IRS Thing&#8221;\" class=\"hm-read-more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=35574\"><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">More About that &#8220;IRS Thing&#8221;<\/span>Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":623,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[213,185,5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-35574","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-your-tax-dollars-at-work","category-crime","category-politics"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/35574","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/623"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=35574"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/35574\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=35574"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=35574"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=35574"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
