Everyone knows that junior enlisted guys and gals don\u2019t make all that much.\u00a0 But it seems as if one soldier found a . . . \u00a0creative way of supplementing his income.<\/p>\n

Anthony Pirone was unemployed.\u00a0 He was drawing unemployment compensation in CA.<\/p>\n

He finally got fed up with being jobless.\u00a0 So in May 2011, he enlisted.\u00a0 He\u2019s currently serving in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s only one tiny problem.\u00a0 It seems Pirone didn’t notify the state of California he was employed<\/a> after he enlisted.\u00a0 In fact, according to the state of California he filed false affidavits at least 10 times stating he had no job after he’d enlisted.\u00a0 He also cashed the unemployment checks he received between May and Decembeer 2011.<\/p>\n

Since Pirone is currently deployed, his trial will be delayed until after he returns from deployment.\u00a0 But then he\u2019ll have to answer a few rather pointed questions.<\/p>\n

By the way:\u00a0 if you’re thinking you’ve heard the name “Anthony Pirone” \u2013 you just might have.\u00a0 Pirone is one of the BART cops that was involved in the 2009 New Year’s Day shooting incident in Oakland.\u00a0 He was later fired for his actions that night, which reportedly were recorded on video and included striking the guy who later was shot, yelling racial epithets, and in general contributing to the escalation of the incident.\u00a0 Nice guy.<\/p>\n

Oh, and I\u2019m guessing Pirone was pulling in a fair chunk in unemployment – which explains why he might have been reluctant to give it up.\u00a0 At the time he was fired by BART, he was making in excess of $100k a year in salary and overtime.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
