Green Thumb sends us a link to the story<\/a> of Dan Duryee, a Lake County, MT sheriff’s deputy who has been drummed out of the service for telling war stories that never occurred because his military service never occurred. I predict that Green Thumb will call him a “turd” in the comments;<\/p>\n

According to the report, Duryee claimed he had killed enemy combatants while serving in the Marine Corps in the first Gulf War; lost comrades in his unit including one of his best friends; had a scar on his arm resulting from a napalm wound; and suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome, based on a POST investigation and testimony from a number of witnesses.<\/p>\n

Duryee admits that he never served in the military and falsely claimed that he did, but denies making \u201cmany of the statements attributed to him,\u201d the findings of fact report states.<\/p>\n

McCarter wrote in his report that Duryee\u2019s attorney had argued his client was taking responsibility for his actions when he resigned from the Lake County Sheriff\u2019s Office in early January and sought alternative employment. But McCarter countered that Duryee\u2019s argument was \u201cunsupported by any evidence\u201d and \u201cthere is little in the record to show remorse.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So they stripped him of all of his certifications and put his name in a database that would discourage other agencies from hiring him. <\/p>\n
